Join us for a six-day bike tour along the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal Towpath. The 185 mile-long trail meanders along the Potomac River from Cumberland, Maryland, to Washington, DC. The towpath, which has 74 lift locks to adjust for the 605 foot elevation change, was constructed to make the river more navigable.
The trail is scenic and car-free and offers nearly level riding. Plus, the route is rich with history ranging from canal and railroad transportation to the Civil War. The path surface is dirt and gravel, well-suited for a hybrid or e-bike.
Take this opportunity to traverse the whole C&O Canal Towpath and end with a celebratory tour of Washington D.C. You'll enjoy the miles as you bike through this area's sights and varied landscapes.
All shuttles, 5 nights' lodging, 5 breakfasts, 4 dinners (you are on your own for one dinner), 3 lunches, leaders, van support, route directions, a bicycle, and a helmet. Airfare not included.
